PMP Exam Review Course

Prepare to take the PMP exam and enhance your project management skills.

This course is targeted to people who are preparing to sit for the PMP exam. It is called an Exam Review because it is for students who have been on the PMP certification track for a bit of time already, most likely previously studying on their own, in our Certificate in Project Management Program, or with a study group. This workshop will help bring everything together, help explain topics you are struggling with, set your expectations accurately, and build the knowledge and confidence to help you pass the challenging exam.

We will review the concepts that many students struggle with in each of the PMBOK chapters. The reviews are thorough but interactive, allowing students to discuss, restate, do brief drills, and experience practice exam questions.

What is PMP Certification?

The Project Management Institute's Project Management Professional (PMP)^® credential is recognized as the universal standard of the profession. In this workshop, you become better prepared for the PMP^® exam. PMP certification is often a criteria that is either required or requested of job candidates for senior project management positions.

Getting PMP certified helps expand your project management knowledge and skills, it validates your professional work experience (which is an eligibility requirement) and it increases your marketability and often salary level. According to the PMI Salary Survey — Sixth Edition a PMP increases your salary up to 10% more than your non-credentialed colleagues and peers.

There are currently four other certifications offered by PMI. They are the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), the Program Management Professional (PgMP), the Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP), and the Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP). The PMP is by far the most well-known and most requested of job candidates.

Why HALF days?

There are three very important reasons why half-day sessions are best:

Our brains cannot learn for 8 hours straight. The material that we cover is not easy. It takes mental energy to fully participate and it takes time to sink in and buffer between sessions. Four hours seems to be a good session length for highly motivated, mature adults. Eight-hour sessions (or longer) stress the body and the brain.
Most participants lead demanding professional and private lives that they cannot completely put on hold for three full days. Half day sessions allow participants to keep the rest of their lives in balance.
Emperical studies show that participants in multi-day, full-day training programs do not review program material between sessions. They are too burned out. However participants in half-day training programs often individually review their learning privately between sessions. This review greatly enhances retention and results in a less-stressed test taker and a more successful outcome.

Kay Wais

Kay Wais is the President and founder of Successful Projects and an experienced project management instructor. She is known for her passion for project management and her innovative ways of teaching project management, including the creation of numerous training products including the Project Risk board game, the scheduling challenge, earned value simulation and the estimating game.

Kay has 22 years of project management experience, a Master's degree in Project Management, a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI). She has helped many students become PMP-certified.

Kay has presented numerous project management workshops and classes and has trained many other project management instructors. She has taught project management for many years at Viterbo University, UW-La Crosse, UW-Green Bay, UW-Superior, UW-Stout, UW-Stevens Point, Western Technical College, and the Rochester Community Technical College. She assists with project management curriculum design for many colleges, corporate training programs, and publishers (such as McGraw-Hill). She founded the La Crosse PMI chapter, became its first president, and serves on the board. She started the Certificate of Project Management program in 2007.

Kay and her husband, Ed Wais, founded The AVS Group in 1989, AVS Properties in 1998, and Successful Projects in 2001, all of which still operate under their ownership today. They live in Dresbach, Minnesota.
