Virtual Communications

Most project managers need to be successful in virtual communications. This page includes some tips. Much of this information came from the book "The Distance Manager: A hands-on guide to managing off-site employees and virtual teams" by Kimball Fisher and Mareen Duncan Fisher.

Problem: Poor Team Start-Ups

Investing funds for travel for a good face-to-face kick-off session is often a very good decision. It can help create a bond and develop a level of understanding and personalization that may never develop virtually. This is the most effective way to do some team building, develop goals and measures, and clarify roles and responsibilities.

Not to be overly negative, but without a successful start-up, virtual teams can often flounder for their entire existence.
